Time: Registration and Coffee: 9.00am, Commencement: 9.30am

"JURISDICTIONAL ISSUES IN ARBITRATION AND ADJUDICATION: A COMPARISON"

This year's seminar will be split into two parts: the morning session will compare the jurisdictional aspects of arbitration and adjudication from both the arbitrator's/adjudicator's perspective and from the parties' representatives' perspective. The afternoon session will cover recent developments in case law affecting adjudication and a question and answer session if time permits.

Our speakers for the seminar will be Chris Hough of Fenwick Elliott, Solicitors and John Riches of Henry Cooper Consultants, both of whom are committee members of adjudication.co.uk.

Chris Hough is a Chartered Civil Engineer and Solicitor with more than 20 years experience in the construction industry working for contractors and consulting engineers and for major construction law firms such as Masons and Fenwick Elliott in the UK, South Africa, the Middle East and the Far East. He is a Partner with construction solicitors Fenwick Elliott where he specialises almost exclusively in the resolution of construction disputes. He has advised in substantial adjudications and has accepted adjudicator nominations by the ICE, RIBA, RICS, CIOB and TeCSA. He is also a qualified arbitrator. His experience is both local and international. UK based disputes have concerned offices, hospitals, residential buildings, oil platforms, motorways and tunnels. International matters have involved dry docks, port facilities, and transportation infrastructure works.

John Riches is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and Chartered Builder with more than 30 years experience in the construction industry. In May 1990 he formed Henry Cooper Consultants with a wide remit of consultancy services to the construction industry. He acts as Arbitrator, Adjudicator and Mediator. He is an Arbitrator on the RICS Arbitration Panel and receives arbitral appointments on a regular basis. He has carried out adjudications under the old regimes for Sub-Contracts (50+ appointments) and has been trained for the new regime under the Housing Grants Construction and Regeneration Act 1996. He acts as tutor and assessor for Adjudicators on the RICS and CIOB Panels and is qualified as a tutor for the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators on their Adjudication courses. He also acts as assessor for the RICS Arbitration Panel.

Refreshments will be provided: morning coffee, luncheon with wine and afternoon tea.
